Vegas, Reconsidered

Olivier Felicio

A JCK Las Vegas review — and the quiet realization that the world’s best jewellery is already waiting for Canadians at home.

By The Dioro Jewellery Team

The desert was milder than Vegas usually serves it — a gentler heat than the wall most arrivals brace for. Inside, though, the show ran as warm as ever: the lights, the showcases stretching past the horizon line, the low electric hum of the largest jewellery trade show on the continent. JCK Las Vegas has always been theatre as much as commerce — the place where the industry comes to see itself, to set the year’s tone, to find out what’s next.

We made the trip ourselves — the Dioro Jewellery team, badges on, walking the floor in person. Not as spectators, but with a question in our pocket: in 2025, does the rest of the world still hold something Canada doesn’t?

By the time we left, we had our answer. It wasn’t the one the show wanted to tell.

The Spectacle Holds

Let’s be fair to JCK. The scale is real, and so is the craftsmanship.

The leading global houses brought their A-game — finishing, polish, stone setting, and design language that earned every bit of their reputation. Acres of gold catching the overhead light. Diamonds graded, sorted, and staged with care. For decades this was the pilgrimage, the trip you simply had to make if you were serious about the trade.

That part hasn’t changed. The product is still world-class.

The fundamentals were all there. What had shifted was who still needed to fly in to see them.

What the Floor Was Wearing

A good review reports what’s actually moving — not what the brochures promise. Across the aisles, a few themes were impossible to miss, and each one sent us flipping mentally through our own catalogue to find its match.

Gold chains, unapologetically. Italian links, hollow and solid Cuban, Miami Cuban, Figaro, box — in 10kt, 14kt, and 18kt, across every weight a buyer could want. The chain is back at the center of the case, and the market knows it. It’s the same story across our chain pages: hollow and solid Italian, Miami Cuban from 7mm up to the heavy 15mm GDOV450, Figaro, Singapore, box, and rope, weighted and lengthed to whatever a counter needs.

Lightweight 18kt, having its moment. Buyers want the prestige of higher-karat gold without the prohibitive heft. The answer, everywhere: luxurious, feather-light 18kt hoops, earrings, and pendants — precisely the “Luxury, Light Weight 18kt” chapter our own collection is built around.

Diamonds, natural and lab-grown, side by side. The conversation has matured. Retailers now serve every budget without sacrificing the look — and nobody apologizes for it. Our 14kt diamond pages already run both, from natural and lab necklaces and bracelets through to the diamond rings, huggies, and pendants.

Everyday luxury that sells year-round. Huggies, diamond-cut hoops, CZ studs, evil-eye motifs, stackables. The self-purchasing customer is driving volume, and the floor reflected it — the same engine behind the deep CZ, huggie, evil-eye, and initial assortments that fill the front half of our book.

None of this is niche. It’s the core of what the biggest companies in the world are putting front and center — and, page for page, it’s already the spine of the Dioro catalogue.

The Story Nobody Announced

Here is the moment this JCK Las Vegas review turned — and it had nothing to do with a single showcase.

The Canadian presence wasn’t what it used to be.

There was a time when JCK was the reason Canadian jewellers boarded a plane. The gap between what you could find at home and what the global market offered was wide enough to justify the airfare, the customs line, the hotel. The trip had a purpose.

That purpose has quietly evaporated.

The thinner Canadian turnout isn’t apathy. It’s the opposite — it’s confidence. Canadian jewellers no longer need to leave to find the best.

This isn’t a story about people caring less about trends or quality. It’s a story about not having to cross a border to get them. Everything that once required a flight south can now be found right here in Canada.

The Benchmark Test

We didn’t walk that floor as tourists. We walked it as the Dioro team, treating the show as a measuring stick — category by category, trend by trend, holding our own collection up against the most established names in the business.

The verdict came back clean: Dioro stands on par with the best and biggest companies in the industry.

Every major trend we clocked at JCK already lives in our Toronto showroom — and, just as tellingly, on the pages of our catalogue.

The gold chains — solid and hollow Italian, Miami and Cuban, Figaro, Singapore, box, and rope, in 10kt, 14kt, and 18kt. The luxury lightweight 18kt earrings, hoops, and pendants for the buyer who wants premium karat at a wearable weight. The natural and lab-grown diamond rings, necklaces, bracelets, huggies, and pendants spanning every price point. The high-turnover everyday pieces — CZ rings, studs, hoops, evil-eye designs, initials, and wedding bands — that keep retail cases moving all twelve months of the year. Turn the catalogue cover to cover and the same arc reveals itself, from kids’ birthstone screwbacks on page one to the wedding bands at the back.

Stand in our showroom and you are looking at the same trends, the same breadth, the same calibre of finished product you’d see on the Vegas floor. Minus the flight.

The Verdict

The biggest takeaway from JCK wasn’t a trend at all. It was a confirmation.

A visit to the Dioro showroom is the equivalent of what’s available anywhere in the world.

Canadian jewellers once traveled for selection and scale. Today that selection and scale lives at home. The global standard isn’t something to import — it’s already on the table.

The floor in Vegas was dazzling. But the more interesting room, it turns out, is the one in Toronto.
